Key Lime is always at the top of the list as a favorite, whether it be pies or other goodies. The list of goods sold with “key lime” in the name is endless, from cookies to dog treats. But how many of these items actually contain any key lime juice as an ingredient?
We hope to address some of these questions, as the Food and Drug Administration is quite clear on labeling requirements, yet has not specified “key lime” as an actual ingredient, or if it is merely a style. As key lime purists, we contend that key limes —specifically Limón Mexicano or Citrus aurantifolia Swingle— are a very specific classification of citrus and containing qualities that are unique to it. Merely calling something “key lime” does not make it so.
